Practice Versus Prosperity

May we have the courage to accept Goddess Saraswati's gifts of knowledge and wisdom, untethered by fame and fortune.

As a practitioner of the healing arts, I like to immerse myself in Vedic knowledge and wisdom. My life is a dance between external success (by way of public recognition and material compensation) and internal fulfillment (through deep study and meaningful learning). I am mindful of this balancing act between the pursuit of practice and the practical of prosperity. The pull of Goddess Saraswati, dressed in 'undyed' plain clothes immersed in true learning, and the tug of Goddess Lakshmi, bedecked in jewels beckoning toward fortune.
As I stepped into my 55th year a few weeks ago, I resolved to not reduce Saraswati to ‘Vidya-Lakshmi’ where I am merely applying knowledge to my vocation as a Vedic Counselor. While I have never abused Vedic wisdom as a tool toward fame and fortune, I am feeling the call for deeper exploration. In my meditations, I am being prompted to re-discover the purpose of my education. In this Year of the Snake, I am willing to transform and free myself of the fetters of external validation.
And while success might pursue me, I will no longer let it possess my time. I recommit myself to studying Vedic wisdom. You will see this shift through new offerings about spiritual sadhana.
So, on this day of Vasant Panchami, when we welcome the elements of early Spring, I wish you all feel the blessings of Goddess Saraswati who brings to us the gift of knowledge and wisdom, untethered by fame and fortune. May we have the courage to receive her gifts and blessings.
