Ayurveda suggests that fasting has great health benefits. Although religious fasting is a time of spiritual growth, it can also be a time of improvement to our health. As we begin to prepare for feasting on Easter, please note that the preceding fast involves staying away from certain foods. Specific research on Lent is a little thin, but one study found that “Lent seems to have beneficial effects on the body by reducing cardiovascular risk factors," and that participants were able to reduce their “…weight, body mass index (BMI) and visceral fat significantly…”
